EV charging for housing associations
The association's chargers charge in the cheap hours by one rule, within what the main fuse allows, and the board gets the statistics and the basis for billing. Residents plug in as usual.
For the board
- Every charger in one place
- Free, charging or offline, with an alert when one goes offline.
- Smart charging
- One rule for every charger, by price or before a time, and at most so many cars at once to keep the power fee down.
- Load balancing
- Follows the main fuse with a meter: Perific, Shelly, Tibber, HomeWizard, Easee Equalizer, Zaptec Sense or your own. It's an optimisation, not a protection device: the fuses protect the building as before.
- Statistics
- Energy, the average price per kWh, CO₂, what timing saved, each charger's occupancy and the result per month and year.
- Billing
- kWh and cost per member at the association's price, fixed, by time of day or spot plus a markup, as CSV and in a monthly report.
- Parking register
- Areas, places, queues and offers, and a list of what to sort out to keep the queues current.
- News and mail
- A news page you turn on, and mail to members from the association's own address.
For residents
- Cheap without doing anything
- Plug in as usual: the association's chargers charge in the cheap hours.
- Low battery? Charge now
- If the board allows it: under your car's own level it charges at once, whatever the rule, up to the board's ceiling.
- Your own smart plan
- If the board allows it: your car's battery level and departure decide, within the association's hours.
- Private
- The board never sees your car, your RFID tags or who charged.
The chargers you already have
WattVise logs in to the association's Zaptec installation, Easee site or Charge Amps organisation, or takes OCPP chargers at an address it makes. Several installations, such as two garages, each with its own login. Chargers and cars WattVise works with
Questions
- Does the board see who charged?
- No. The board sees the chargers and the energy, never residents' cars, RFID tags or who charged a session.
- Do we need new chargers?
- No, if they're Zaptec, Easee or Charge Amps, or speak OCPP 1.6J: WattVise works with the installation you have.
- Is load balancing a safety device?
- No. It keeps the charging within the main fuse by the meter's readings, as an optimisation; the installation's fuses and its maximum current still protect the building.
- Does it work for a workplace?
- Yes: the same for companies, with company cars, a payroll export and sign-in with Microsoft or Google.
